In most cases, children born with cleft lip and/or palate need extra dental care. Their upper teeth are often irregular, crooked or turned. Because the lower teeth develop normally, the jaws do not fit well together. In addition, children with cleft have an increased risk of abnormal enamel formation on their teeth. In combination with the lack of knowledge about dental care and oral hygiene in the often remote and poor areas where these children grow up, it is important that Tess Unlimited educates and guides the children and their parents in this matter.
During our surgery week we have an experienced dentist present who will check up on our patients. In the weeks without surgeries, we work together with a local dentist who helps us when patients need extra dental care.
